INDUSTRIAL MARKING IN THE AUTOMOTIVE: VIN NUMBERS

The chassis number or VIN number is a unique alphanumeric identification code, which includes a serial number, used by vehicles manufacturers to identify cars or car components

The chassis number or VIN number is a unique alphanumeric identification code, which includes a serial number, used by vehicles manufacturers to identify cars or car components all over the world. It consists of 17 digits and it is like a fingerprint. No another chassis can be marked with the same code number. This also is used for registration, warranties, tracking and identification for insurance companies.

How cne we mark a VIN number?

The most suitable technologies for this application are Automator dot peen (see pictrure below) and scribe technologies. The first one allows to mark alphanumeric codes through frequent or spaced points on car components metal surface. The second one marks through a tip that cuts the surface “by scratch”, on continuous with very low noise.
